Louis Sicard, Cigale Tête Ouverte - French Provence Wall Vase / Ornament
Louis Sicard, Cigale Tête Ouverte - Ceramic Cigale (Cicada) Wall Vase / Ornament
In 1895, the owners of the Tuileries de Marseille asked the talented ceramicist, Louis Sicard, to create representative Provençal item as a gift for his business clients. Sicard chose the shape of a cicada because of its prevalence in Provence, and because of it's symbol to the Provençaux of happiness, prosperity, and good luck.
These traditional, classic French Provence Cicada wall vases are hung at an entrance, hallway or kitchen to bring joy and luck to the family and home. They can be filled with fresh and dried flowers, lavender, herbs or whatever you wish.
