About the unicorn Tapestries
This scarf features the star of the Unicorn Tapestries (South Netherlandish, 1495–1505) on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Cloisters. These seven luxurious hangings vividly depict scenes associated with a hunt for an elusive, magical unicorn. The Unicorn in Captivity shows the mythical creature loosely tethered to a tree and constrained by a low fence. Though he could escape, his confinement is apparently a happy one.
