This ethereal pattern comes from a silk piece made in 18th–19th-century Japan. Woven during the Edo (1615–1868) or Meiji period (1868–1912), the Museum's charming textile bears a repeating pattern of birds in flight among tendrilous flowers.

Today, it’s housed in The Met’s Asian art collection, one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in the world.
