About the Tiffany Peonies Original Design
With its rich hues and pillowy petals, the peony inspired the jewel-toned blooms defining a magnificent floor lamp in The Met's American Wing. Designed in 1904–15 by Louis C. Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) for Tiffany Studios (American, 1902–32), the elaborate florals on the Museum's lamp, reinterpreted on this stylish silk scarf, illustrate the designer's obsession with natural beauty. The size and shape of the individual pieces of glass on the original lamp mimic the petals and leaves of the flower itself.
