About Van Gogh and his painting, "Wheat Field with Cypresses"
During his convalescence at the asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, 1853–1890) became notably captivated by the cypress trees towering over the French countryside. Wheat Field with Cypresses (1889) is an exceptional composition belonging to a dedicated series made early in his yearlong stay at the asylum.
