About the Paintings on the Notecards
Gathered together are details from five masterpieces in The Met collection, including three recent and important acquisitions of paintings by female artists. A Bouquet of Flowers (ca. 1612) by Clara Peeters (Flemish, ca. 1587–after 1636) as well as Flowers in a Grotesque Vase (ca. 1635) and Fruit and Flowers (ca. 1639), both by Orsola Maddalena Caccia (Italian, 1596–1676), join works by Margareta Haverman (Dutch, 1693–1722 or later) and Severin Roesen (American, b. Prussia, 1816–72?) to call attention to this virtuosic tradition.
