About Margaret Neilson Armstrong
Margaret Neilson Armstrong (American, 1867–1944) was a prolific designer of book covers, an accomplished botanist, and a successful author. A celebrated book artist for more than 35 years, she created exceptional book bindings with rich colors, distinctive lettering, and stylized ornamentation that often utilized plants, vines, and flowers. Between 1911 and 1914, Armstrong journeyed through the western United States with a group of intrepid female friends; these travels resulted in her 1915 Field Book of Western Wild Flowers, featuring more than 500 of her botanical drawings.
