About the Audubon's Waterbird Collection
The "Audubon Waterbird Collection" is not a separate, formal collection of artworks, but rather a grouping of the waterbird illustrations from John James Audubon's monumental book, The Birds of America. This work, published between 1827 and 1838, included 435 life-size, hand-colored prints of American bird species. The waterbirds were among the most dramatic and impressive subjects in the set.
