What is a French Viennoiserie? Viennoiseries are French baked goods that are a cross between bread and pastry! The word "viennoiserie" is French for "things from Vienna", and they originated in Vienna, Austria in the 19th century. Viennoiseries are made with yeast-leavened dough or puff pastry, and added ingredients like eggs, butter, milk, cream, and sugar make them richer and sweeter than bread. The dough is often laminated.
