About Winslow Homer
Winslow Homer (American, 1836–1910) is often regarded as the greatest American painter of the 19th century. He began his practice as an illustrator, primarily for magazines and other publications, before devoting his time fully to painting. In the latter part of his career, Homer was influenced by his global travels and explored the power of the sea. Homer's compositions regularly focus on the fragility of human life in relation to the timelessness of nature.
